20 surprisingly baby-friendly travel destinations

Cuba

Cuba might not be the first destination that comes to mind when thinking about traveling with a baby, but it turned out to be the perfect choice for our first international trip as a family of four, especially with our young children. Although we were one of the few families with very young children, we were treated like royalty, enjoying extra help and being whisked to the front of the line at every turn. The locals, always ready with a smile and gasps of delight, loved our smallest traveler, and on several occasions, kind waitresses offered to hold our baby while we ate. The energy of the vibrant streets and the welcoming people made it a unique experience.

However, a heads up: baby supplies like diapers and wipes can be tricky to find, so it’s important to come stocked for the entire trip. Thankfully, traveling from the US, there’s no need for extra vaccines, making the trip easier to plan. From personal experience, the smiles and helpfulness of the locals made us feel like we were in the best place to explore with our baby, despite the challenges of finding certain supplies.

Cyprus

One destination that truly surprised us with how baby-friendly it was, especially when traveling as a family, is Cyprus. The people there are incredibly welcoming and love families and children, making it an ideal spot for those with kids. We never felt awkward when bringing our little ones to various sites, including the ruins of Paphos, and even took part in a food tour where the guide was beyond accommodating. The food was great, and what really stood out was the availability of indoor soft play centers with child minders who would watch your kids while you enjoyed some downtime.

What struck me about Cyprus is how inexpensive it was compared to other European destinations, and it also seemed very welcoming to mixed-race families something I’ve not always experienced in every European country. From personal experience, I can confidently say that Cyprus is a GREAT place for families seeking a mix of cultural exploration and family-friendly amenities.

Dominican Republic

We’re not usually fans of typical resorts, but we made an exception for Club Med, and it truly exceeded our expectations! The Baby Club was amazing, providing everything from cribs and baby food to baby gear and strollers, all included in your stay. I appreciated how they organized age groups for the kids’ clubs, ensuring a perfect experience for children of all ages.

The baby nannies were a standout so amazing that I jokingly thought of trying to take them home with us! With multiple locations around the world, Club Med makes traveling with your baby so much easier, and their services are truly tailored to families. I’ve been there myself, and I can vouch for how incredibly smooth and stress-free traveling with little ones can be when everything is taken care of in one place.

Fiji

In Fiji, the Fijian people truly love babies, making it a standout baby-friendly destination. We had the chance to visit with our kids and saw firsthand how wonderful the locals were, especially with our baby. During a river rafting tour, our guide insisted on carrying our baby while we hiked to the rafting spot. Later, on a waterfall hike, the same care was shown, with staff at two different restaurants offering to hold our baby while we ate.

It was this warm hospitality and genuine love for babies that made our experience unforgettable. As someone who’s traveled to many places, I can confidently say that Fiji was one of the most family-friendly and easygoing spots we’ve ever visited, making traveling with little ones feel smooth and enjoyable.

French Polynesia

Bora Bora, often thought of as a couples-only honeymoon destination, is actually a hidden gem for families, as we found out when we visited with our daughter, Liesel, at just 2 years old. It became an epic place for building sand castles and creating family memories. Liesel quickly learned to hold her breath and even began snorkeling with us. She was so fascinated by the underwater world, chasing fish and participating in an unforgettable shark and stingray snorkeling trip, where she fearlessly swam with the sharks.

While many associate Bora Bora with honeymooners, it offers a lot for families, too. I personally was amazed by how much a destination with such a strong couple’s reputation can be so baby-friendly, proving that you should never rule out a place based on its initial stigma.

Georgia

Tbilisi is a great place to visit with your children, babies, or toddlers. The Georgians are incredibly welcoming, and it’s not unusual for the wait staff at restaurants to offer to hold your baby or take your toddler for a little walk around while you enjoy your meal. The locals are also accommodating, offering to get you anything from milk and cooked vegetables to yogurt and bread to help feed your baby.

Plus, you’ll find grocery stores in shopping malls where you can easily buy diapers (including Pampers), baby food, and baby items without having to pack a ton. The prices are inexpensive, which is a huge relief! Additionally, many of the things to do and see in Tbilisi are outside, so even if your baby cries, it’s no big deal there’s plenty to enjoy in the open air, away from museums and other enclosed spaces. From my own experience, I was pleasantly surprised by how easy and comfortable traveling with my little one was in Tbilisi. The warmth and care of the Georgians made all the difference!

Greece

Greece is a fantastic place for travel with babies, offering both the mainland and many beautiful Greek islands. My family visited often, starting when Mia was just 8 months old, and we were amazed by how baby-friendly the country is. The islands offer not only stunning beaches but also inlet lakes that are fantastic for babies. Accommodations are top-notch, with many resorts providing playlands, baby activities, and even baby-friendly restaurants serving delicious Greek food.

For sightseeing, there are wonderful attractions like aquariums, zoos, and parks. We did plenty of walking, so don’t forget your baby carrier and stroller for comfort. If you enjoy exploring off-the-beaten-path locations, renting a car is a great option, and it’s quite inexpensive—just be sure to bring a car seat as not all rentals provide them. The welcoming atmosphere and endless activities made Greece an unforgettable family destination. We had an amazing time making memories with Mia, and she loved every second of it!

Italy

Italians are famously crazy for babies, and it shows everywhere you go. From the moment we arrived, our Airbnb host welcomed us with warmth, explaining how babies are treated as a pure gift from God in their culture. Change tables may be rare, but the attitude is to change babies anywhere. Whether in restaurants or markets, free samples of bread, gelato, and candy were always handed to our kids, which delighted them. People were constantly offering to hold your baby or give them kisses, showing a deep willingness to help.

We even had the honor of the pope blessing our boys during our visit! While exploring crowded cities with cobblestone streets, we found baby-wearing to be the most practical option. Plus, baby item rentals in most cities made it so easy to travel light. As someone who’s traveled extensively through Italy, I can tell you that it’s one of the most family-friendly destinations, especially with kids. Every experience was filled with nothing but warm, welcoming gestures and a strong sense of community around babies.

Japan

Japan is a perfect destination to travel with your baby, offering one of the safest and cleanest environments, which makes it easier to travel abroad with your little one. From the moment we arrived, the locals were excited to meet our 7-month-old baby, and it was impossible to go anywhere without having a happy interaction with someone. Thanks to the omotenashi culture, many people went out of their way to help and accommodate us.

Japan is also known for its amazing food, and we were constantly offered baby plates and utensils at restaurants. One of the reasons we chose Japan was because we didn’t need to bring a car seat the rail system is incredibly extensive and convenient, allowing us to visit so many different places all via train. Having experienced it firsthand, I can honestly say that Japan is a wonderfully baby-friendly destination.

Malta

If you’re looking for a family-friendly destination, Malta is a must-visit. We stayed at the Seashells Resort in St Paul’s, located in the Northwest part of the island, and it was simply stunning. The resort really catered to families, offering a sitter for date nights and a kids’ club packed with activities. The kids’ area pool featured water slides and kiddy pools, conveniently located near the adult pool. One of the highlights was the underground tunnel that allowed us to safely reach the pool without worrying about traffic.

We visited Popeye’s Village, a charming movie set with live Popeye shows, perfect for a family day trip. At Mellieha Bay, the beach offered a kid’s playground and waiter service for food and drinks, making it easy to relax with rented chairs and an umbrella while the kids played in the sea. A Hornblower boat cruise to the Blue Lagoon was unforgettable, with kids sliding off the boat and enjoying music as we lounged in the Mediterranean. The resort’s pack and plays ensured the little ones were comfortable. With its ancient history, walled city, and welcoming locals, Malta truly felt like an undiscovered gem and one of the most family-friendly destinations we’ve experienced!

Norway

Norway stands out as one of the most baby-friendly destinations I’ve encountered. The Norwegian culture emphasizes spending time outdoors with families, making it the perfect spot for babies from the moment they’re born, no matter the weather. The locals are eager to interact with children, ensuring that all kids feel welcomed and comfortable. The country’s infrastructure is thoughtfully designed to accommodate families, with stroller spaces on public transportation and car seats available in taxis.

Whether you’re traveling on overnight trains with family cabins and play areas or enjoying a seamless itinerary from companies like “Norway in a Nutshell,” Norway ensures families have everything they need. Renting a car with a baby seat gives you the flexibility to explore the stunning landscapes at your own pace, while baby food, diapers, and baby accessories are both affordable and widely available.

During my trip to Norway, I was amazed by how easy it was to travel with my little one the hotels, cabins, and even camping grounds had everything we needed. Public breastfeeding is common, and it’s great to see how the country has prioritized making it easier for families to travel with babies. I can’t recommend Norway enough as a destination that truly caters to its youngest guests.

Peru

Machu Picchu might not be the first place you think of when considering baby-friendly destinations, but Peru is surprisingly great for families. Peruvian culture is deeply family-centric, and you’ll see kids everywhere, often with separate lines for families at popular sites. While some places may not be stroller accessible, baby wearing is common, and it’s a great way to keep your little ones close. As you explore, you’ll come across plazas, pedestrian only streets, and wide sidewalks, not to mention parks and playgrounds perfect for kids to enjoy.

During our trip with a baby (6 months old) and a toddler (2.5 years old), we made sure to take it slow, adjusting our route to help with the elevation. We prioritized staying healthy and had an amazing time, despite the challenging temperature changes. When I visited Machu Picchu, I was surprised by how manageable the journey was with our little ones, even though we expected it to be tough.

Poland

Traveling with a baby can sometimes be challenging, but Warsaw has made it surprisingly easy. The city offers a well-organized public transit system, perfect for parents with strollers. Many parks and playgrounds are spread across the city, allowing families to enjoy some outdoor time. You’ll also find a wide range of restaurant choices that are welcoming to families. In some cafes, parents can relax with a coffee and pastry while their little ones play in an indoor playground.

One of the most charming aspects of Warsaw is how the Polish grannies absolutely adore babies, even though they might fuss about the baby not wearing a hat even on hot days! For parents, the trains are often wheelchair- and stroller-accessible, with clearly marked spaces for ease of use. During my visit, I found the people extremely friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with finding the best spots for families to relax and explore.

South Africa

Cape Town is truly a paradise for families, and it surprised us as one of the most kid-friendly destinations we’ve visited with our daughters. Our 6-month-old and 2-year-old found plenty to enjoy in the vibrant culture and food of the city. The outdoor playgrounds were perfect for their age group, and the stunning picturesque location offered countless activities like visiting the world-famous aquarium and enjoying the local wildlife. From thrilling open jeep safaris to whale watching and even exploring ostrich farms, there’s something for every little one.

One of the biggest highlights was spending time at Boulders Beach, where we watched the adorable penguins—a memory we’ll cherish forever. We also loved the V & A Waterfront, where live music, a train ride, and quirky animal sculptures kept the girls entertained for hours. Cape Town made traveling with our kids easy, welcoming, and unforgettable. I still recall how the entire family adored the beach and the simple joy of just being outdoors in such a vibrant city.

South Korea

Busan, South Korea, stands out as a baby-friendly gem where families, especially those with children, can truly enjoy their time. The city is home to numerous kid’s cafes where parents can relax with food and drinks while their little ones have fun. We often visit places like Kid’s President, Emart, and Chouchoubonbon in Marine City, and places like Tayo Kids Cafe, Lilliput, and Jumping On are fantastic for keeping the kids entertained. For families with older children, a visit to Kidzania in the Shinsaegae department store is a must.

What I really appreciate about Busan is the abundance of outdoor playgrounds in apartment blocks, making it easy for kids like my daughter Lilah, 4, to play safely. We even took time to explore the temples, which she affectionately calls tree houses. Busan’s beaches are particularly child-friendly, with calm waters perfect for a swim, though swimmers may be asked to leave by September when the beaches close for the season. The convenience of shopping for essentials at Costco or Emart ensures we never run out of diapers or snacks for Hudson, our 8-month-old. I was genuinely amazed at how warm and accommodating South Korea is for families traveling with little ones, and every visit gets better.

Sri Lanka

Lanka offers a unique combination of family travel opportunities, making it an ideal destination for those with little ones. The island country is known for its diversity, from exploring ancient ruins to hiking through mountainous landscapes and lounging on beaches. You can even embark on safari rides in national parks like Udawalawe. We visited Colombo, Sigiriya, Kandy, and other picturesque towns, and the best part is that these towns are just a few hours’ drive away, making it easy to get around in a private van with a driver at an affordable rate.

The weather in Sri Lanka can vary from the tropical climate in Southern beach towns to the cool, refreshing air of the highlands, where the temperatures are perfect for those traveling with babies. I personally recommend visiting in January, which is the best time to visit due to the more temperate weather. What makes it even better is that Sri Lankans are incredibly friendly and generally speak good English, making it easy for families to get around. Plus, the locals absolutely adore children, making it feel like an incredibly welcoming destination for family vacations. When we visited, my toddler and baby had a blast, and the level of hospitality left us feeling right at home.

Thailand

Thailand is undoubtedly one of the most baby-friendly places I’ve visited. The Thais have a natural love for children, and our 2-year-old was never in short supply of fruit at any restaurant. As soon as they realized she adored bananas, she was fully stocked for the duration of our meal, and her newfound love for mango began here too. We even got the chance to join a Thai cooking class, where the instructors were so welcoming to our little one. Having a baby carrier made it easy to explore the cultural landmarks we had on our list.

After a long day of sightseeing, we could relax by the pool at our lodging, especially after a memorable visit to the Elephant Nature Park to see elephants up close. We stayed at Joy’s Guesthouse, which was such a great experience we extended our time there. When packing for the trip, we made sure to bring plenty of sunscreen and mosquito patches to ensure a comfortable stay for everyone. From the incredible hospitality to the easy-going atmosphere, Thailand made family travel effortless.

Turkey

In Turkey, it’s a heartwarming experience traveling with your baby as the people are incredibly welcoming. I’ve had men on the street stop us just to coo over our little one, making the trip even more memorable. Waiters at restaurants were so thoughtful, offering to hold the baby so we could sit back and eat in peace, a gesture that felt genuinely sweet. If you’re considering a baby-friendly destination, Turkey should definitely be on your family travel bucket list!

It’s a destination that offers not only cultural richness but also an environment where you and your children can feel right at home. On our trip, I was pleasantly surprised by how easy and enjoyable it was, and the locals’ love for children added to the charm. I even received some ideas from locals on where to visit next, and I encourage you to share your experiences in the comments below if you’ve visited any of these places or have other hidden gems that are baby friendly.
